Leaving behind the beauty of Sligo, Ireland, I set off for London to help me realise my full potential through a campaign of stealth, and successive career and job changes. These all turned out to be bad choices which allowed me to ride on the coat-tails of every recession and redundancy along the way.
I would have been bitter if it were not for seeing the funny side of everything; and also because of the love of a good woman who could not pronounce Agnus Castus, and hence Angus Cactus was born.
Funny has no genres, funny is just funny. As babies we giggle, and in old age we laugh at the unreliability of our bodies.
A philosopher once said, that life is the universe’s attempt at observing itself.
In much the same way, humour is our abstract self’s attempt at perceiving and understanding the meaning of mundane life.
In my humble opinion, humour is like the final weapon in the writer’s  arsenal; the one that should be used up close and personally.  Writing comedy often works better if you have written other fiction first. It helps in the translation process required to turn funny memories and thoughts into funny stories.

Angus Cactus is a pen name that I use to differentiate my comedy writing from my other literary projects. I am not saying that they are not compatable, but the genre and writing style are very different.
